The word “trigonometry” can be broken into the parts tri, gon, and metry, which means “three angle measurement” or “triangle measurement.” Throughout this section, you will learn new ways of finding missing sides and angles of triangles which you would not be able to find using the Pythagorean Theorem alone.

TRIGONOMETRIC RATIOS
Trigonometry is the study of the relationship of the sides and angles of a right triangle. A trigonometric ratio is a ratio of the lengths of two sides of a right triangle. There are trigonometric ratios for each acute angle. Three ratios are called sine, cosine, and tangent. The trigonometric ratios are shown in the right triangles below.
